A New Direction for All Things New!
Honestly, this is less about a "new direction" like the title says and more about a renewed and specific focus on an old direction. Over the past few months we have begun to spend most of our time and focus on figuring out what's next for our kids!
If you have been with us for a long time, you probably remember that this has always been one of our biggest concerns. I remember from the time that we first moved down to Haiti, we knew that 18 years (or however long the kids stay at All Things New) was not enough.
Please do not hear me say that we have not done enough for these kids. This is not a guilt trip. Everyone who has partnered with us through prayer, trips, and donations have changed the lives of our kids in amazing ways.
I remember being in Haiti early on and I knew that GOD was calling us not to a country, not to a mission, and not to a ministry...To a group of kids. That is different. We were not called to open an orphanage and make sure kids survived until they were old enough to leave. We were there for those specific kids.
I knew, even within the first few months, that this would be hard. I knew it would be long and we would have to persevere. I didn't know what Haiti would turn into in 2019, but that did not change why we are there.
The next steps are going to be difficult. We have had some good ideas of how we could help our kids long-term, but each of those ideas came to a screeching halt when the country fell into complete chaos and turmoil.
Our mission grew more difficult, but it did not change. We are here for these kids. To help them become the men and women that GOD wants them to be.
With that said, it is not enough for us to get our kids to the age of adulthood and the vanish. We are here to help our kids live and thrive in their home country.
We are still in the early stages, but we have put together a team of people who are focused on just the future of our kids. We have thrown around some ideas of what we can do, especially since we cannot get down to them nor they up to us.
We know that whatever we do will be personalized for each kid and their skills and interests. We have thrown around the idea of setting up a fund for each kid that they can pull from for things like college tuition, renting/buying a home, or seed money for a business. We are exploring the idea of internships and job contacts that we may have made over the years. We are not sure what exactly will happen.
What we do know is that we are not finished yet!
Stay with us and join us for this new initiative that I will tell you about more and more as we meet and make decisions.
