Another Tragedy
Many of you may have seen on the news or in some of our recent Facebook posts that there was another tragedy in Haiti, this time in the Kenscoff area. Less than 1 week ago at least 50 people were killed and another 50 people were kidnapped by gangs in one devastating attack.
Like Gressier, Kenscoff is known as a rural, farming village that was totally devastated in a matter of hours. Our kids used to live in Gressier, but after a lot of prayer we moved them about an hour away to keep them out of danger. The last few days have shown this to have been a wise decision as things are getting worse there also.
I want to apologize for how little we have been writing and communicating lately, but we have been working hard behind the scenes. My promise to you is that I will post and send out at least 1 blog every week for the foreseeable future and maybe more!
The recent tragedy, along with years of civil and political unrest along with increasing gang presence and activity have made something crystal clear. We have to plan for our kids' futures around these heartbreaking and terrible issues.
Over the past 5 months, we have come up with a final plan for All Things New to help each of our kids have as much of a chance to succeed in life as possible.
9 of our kids have graduated high school in the past 3 years!
I cannot overemphasize what a great accomplishment this is for our kids, and we realized something. They are ready to begin going out on their own and making a life for themselves!
Over the next 6-8 weeks we are going to share:
- Our plan is for each of our graduates and how we are going to help them succeed.
- The plan for our kids who are still in school.
- What is going to happen to our employees.
- What our "Final Plans" for All Things New will look like.
- How we are going to keep our promise to ensure our kids know they always can come to us.
- What we need in the short term to make sure ATN remains a strong ministry.
- What we need to finish well over the next few years.
- What is going on with some of our Haitian friends in America as TPS (Temporary Protected Status) has ended here and many Haitians are being deported back to a country that is even more dangerous now than it was when they left.
The bottom line is that we are back and ready to share the plans that we have been making over the past few months. These things are very difficult, and Haiti is in a terrible situation right now, but we are going to do our best to continue to fight for and help our kids!
