Giving Tuesday and Matching Funds!
GIVING TUESDAY IS 1 WEEK FROM TODAY!
On Giving Tuesday, Nov. 28, every dollar raised by nonprofits through Facebook will be matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. What a great opportunity for anyone associated with All Things New to make a big difference in our organization as the end of the year is quickly approaching. If you are planning on helping us on this day, simply click here to see how the matching funds will be distributed and the rules that are in place, but I want to bring your attention to the most important rule for this Giving Tuesday matching opportunity:
WE NEED EVERYONE READING THIS TO CREATE A FUNDRAISER FOR ALL THINGS NEW ON YOUR FACEBOOK PAGE!
It is so simple to do this, but this is the only way we will be able to take advantage of this matching opportunity. Facebook is waiving all fees (as long as you give through a Facebook Fundraiser), they are matching dollar-for-dollar, and they will match all the way up to $50,000 per organization! The key to this is that they will only match up to $1,000 per “Donate Button.” What this means is that if 100 people each create a fundraiser for All Things New and each fundraiser brings in $500, every dollar will be matched. We need as many people as possible to create a fundraiser that day and to give, give, and give through Facebook to ATN.
The matching funds will begin at 8:00 am on Tuesday Nov. 28, so mark your calendar, share with all of your friends, and create a fundraiser on your Facebook page. You have probably seen people raising funds on their birthday, and that is exactly what this is. All you have to do is follow one of these 2 steps:
- Go to your own Facebook Page. There should be a “Fundraiser” button on the left side of your news feed and it will then walk you through the steps and help you find All Things New.
- Go to the All Things New Facebook page. Scroll down until you see “Create a Fundraiser” and click on the link. You will then be taken through the steps to create the fundraiser.
Giving Tuesday is a response to the consumerism and greed that has overtaken a holiday season (Christmas and Thanksgiving) that is supposed to be more than that. Have you ever sat in front of your computer screen just waiting to see Amazon’s new deal on cyber monday, taken away from family time by reading the new Black Friday ad on Thanksgiving, or planned your entire Friday (really now starting on Thursday night) around the idea that you may end up finding a deal on something that you never knew you needed until Best Buy (I’m sure that Best Buy is not cool anymore, but it used to be) told you you did? This simple opportunity to celebrate “Giving Tuesday” in the midst of “black friday” and “cyber monday” is, admittedly, also a marketing ploy. But how much greater would it be to tell your children and your family that Giving (to any family, church, or nonprofit) was and is at the center of who you are and what you do. I know that I want my children to understand what this time of the year means. I hope they never get so focused on the gifts that they desire that they forget the billions of people in the world who have nothing. I hope that their hearts would break more for the poor and the lost than they would break when they don’t get the newest toy or outfit.
