Haiti Update: Employees Return, Kids in School, Tropical Storm

To say the past few weeks for All Things New and our kids in Haiti have been eventful would be an understatement. Things in America and in Haiti have been strange lately, and it certainly seems like "strange" will be the status quo for a while in both places. Here are some updates from Haiti, and if you missed our last blog, click here to read it

 - On August 1, all of our employees returned for the first time since March 20. The kids were happy to see them, the tutors got started getting the kids ready for school, and our employees were thrilled to get back to normal. It was time, but continue to pray that everyone stays safe and healthy.

 - On August 10, the kids started back to school to finish their 2019-2020 school year. They will be starting exams next week (from what Yolmenda and Herbison told me) to make sure that they pass and the new school year will begin in November. Pray for teachers, students, safety procedures, tutors, etc. I know all of the kids were excited to get back to school and see their friends, let's pray that they do it safely just like we are praying for schools in America to begin safely.

 - 3 of our 6 Computer Coders have finished the program and are waiting on jobs. Now that things here in America are starting to get back to a little normalcy, we will be approaching churches and other organizations to try and find work for our coders. Pray that we are successful!

 - Tropical Storm Laura dumped a ton of rain on Haiti. Flood waters destroyed homes and crops and there are at least 11 reported deaths to date. If you add this storm to an already destroyed economy and a deteriorating political and social atmosphere, it is a recipe for disaster. Our kids and employees are fine, but pray that those in more vulnerable situations are ok. I am looking now to see if there are organizations that are helping, and I will let you know if you want to help victims of the storm.

There are a lot of other things to update you on, but these are the big ones. In addition, the CDC has lessened quarantining requirements here and Haiti is doing the same thing, so I am hoping to get back down to Haiti in the month or so. Please be in prayer for that as well and I will keep you updated.

Finally, I will be introducing you to each of our employees over the next month on our Facebook page, so make sure you follow us there!
