Our Board Meeting Devotion

Many of you know that we returned home from Haiti on July 7, and we have been very busy since coming home.  I hope you enjoyed the old blog posts we put up (it was fun to read through all that GOD is doing), but now we are going to get back on the ball by putting up new posts.  So, for the next 3 days, we will put up 1 new blog post each day just to make sure you guys are updated about what is going on.  Before I get into the actual post, please don’t forget that we are in the planning stages of a potential October All Things New mission trip, so please let us know if you are interested in this at all.  Now on to the blog…

This past Sunday we had an All Things New board meeting.  We have an awesome board made up of Jess and I, Chase Covington, Natalie Nobles, David Barley, and Heather Hughes.  On top of that we have 2 attorneys, Bill Gallogly and Robyn Moore, who donate their time and expertise to advise for our board and for our organization. What that means is that we have 8 people who care about what happens to these children and who want this organization to move forward and each of these 8 people bring different perspectives (2 teachers, 1 pastor, 1 financial expert, 2 CPAs, and 2 attorneys).  In the midst of this talent and expertise that was represented at this board meeting, GOD showed me something that is vital for this organization to move forward and succeed…He showed me that none of us are qualified to make this ministry happen!  What does that mean to you as our supporters?  Does that mean that you should run and find a ministry where the leaders are qualified?  NO!

To do the work that GOD calls us to do, none of us are qualified, and that is the absolute best position in which we could ever hope to be!

When we get to place in our life that we think it is our decisions that matter, that is also the point that we no longer go to GOD for every little thing.  If we were qualified to do this, our first step would be to rely on our own wisdom and our own knowledge and to always believe we know what is right.  If we were qualified to do this, we wouldn’t need the help of the incredible people that GOD puts in our lives every single day of our lives.  If we were qualified to do this, we wouldn’t be on the incredible ride that we (and I mean all of us) are on right now. If I wrote this blog and told you that we were qualified to start and run this ministry, it is at that point that you should run to another organization because you would know that you were in the wrong place.

Does this mean that we should never listen to those who are more qualified that we are…No!  Does this mean that we should sit back and not use the skills, knowledge, and wisdom that GOD has given us…No!  Does this mean that the best organizations are those with no skilled help and no ideas of how to move forward…Absolutely not!  GOD has given us talent and knowledge in certain areas, and He uses these things to His own Glory.  It is only when we put our ability over the One who has given it to us that we get into trouble.

Read this passage from Romans 8:14-17
“because those who are led by of GOD are sons of GOD.  For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of Sonship.  And by Him we cry, “Abba, Father.”  The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are GOD’s children.  Now if we are children, then we are heirs–heirs of GOD and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory.”

We are sons and daughters of GOD!  Let me repeat that WE ARE SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF GOD!  Let us never forget that our Father is the creator of the universe.  Our Father is love, He is perfect, and He did choose you!  How could we ever forget that we truly are unqualified, but our Father is completely qualified to do anything.  Let that rule your day today…You are the son/daughter of GOD and nobody can take that away from you.  This is why understanding that we are not qualified is the best position we could ever find ourselves in, because only in our humility can GOD truly work.
