The Last 3 Days in Haiti
There is so much to say about the last 3 days in Haiti, but I am not going to try and get everything into this blog. The truth is, I have had a little writer’s block when it comes to blogs over the past few weeks. It seems like every time I sit down to write one or even think about writing one my mind just gets full of everything that is going on and nothing makes it way to the computer. I guess being back in Haiti has given me a lot more to write about.
The first thing to say is that the kids are doing great. Really great. They are happy, even bigger than I remember, and I am just really proud of them and the men and women they are becoming. Being with them also makes me want to work even harder to help them have a future and pray even harder for GOD to change and transform their lives to be more like Him. I am reminded of their potential and the role GOD has given us to help them reach that potential.
The next thing is that our employees are great. We are revamping our tutoring program a little bit because as our kids get older, school gets harder, but all of our other employees seem to be doing extremely well and we are really happy with work ethic and attitudes.
We are going to the beach Saturday and the kids cannot wait! They love going to the beach so much and they just keep talking about how much fun they are going to have and how much food they are going to eat (even though they all get the same amount of food, it is not a buffet or anything like that).
I have been trying to help get everything ready for school to start in a couple of weeks, and I definitely realize how important Jessica is to this time. I have tried over and over to organize myself and get ready to accomplish everything needed for each day, and it seems like everyday brings more and more to do. Luckily Violenne, Gina, and Lener have worked with Jess the past few years and are pretty much doing everything in spite of me, but it is a lot more difficult than you may think.
You can expect a new blog after tomorrow called “Buying Shoes in the Market #4” because as you have probably noticed, we are going shoe shopping in the market tomorrow. I am excited because the kids really enjoy it and it is fun watching them shop, but at the same time I am not super excited about spending 3-4 hours in a hot outdoor market tomorrow trying to force 15 kids to choose a pair of black school shoes. Pray for us tomorrow as we go back out.
As I type this, the kids are in the living room watching High School Musical 2 or playing Xbox, and it is a nice and familiar feeling. I left a little while ago because it was just too hot for me and I have just seen High School Musical 1, 2, and 3 way more times than a 40 year old man should have. But they are enjoying spending the time together. Anyway, stay tuned to the shoe shopping blog tomorrow or Saturday.
